Kuala Lumpur

TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR INDIAN NATIONALS VISITING MALAYSIA

This is in continuation of the travel advisory issued by the High
Commission of India on 7 May 2022.

2: Consequent to the full restoration of travel and increasing airline
operations between India and Malaysia, increased instances have come to the notice of the High Commission of India in Kuala Lumpur where Indian nationals have been issued ‘Not to land’ (NTL) by the Malaysian Immigration authoritiesat the international airport of entry in Malaysia, thus denying them entry into Malaysia.

3. In all such cases, Indian national travellers, those denied entry, are in possession of a valid social visit pass / E-Social Visit Pass (equivalent to Tourist Visa). Reasons for Indian passengers being given ‘NTL’ by the Malaysian Immigration authorities and denied entry into Malaysia includes-
(i)Lack of sufficient funds to cover the duration of the trip; (ii) Not having confirmed return flight tickets and/or hotel reservations; (iii) Having fake return ticket and/or hotel reservations; (iv) Unclear about purpose of the trip; and (v)Unable to satisfactorily respond to questions asked by Immigration Officer.

4, In the event the traveller is unable to understand the questions asked by the Malaysian Immigration authorities, the traveller can make a request to the Immigration Official to arrange for a translator proficient in the particular language.

5. Further, please note that upon traveller being denied entry into
Malaysia by issuance of ‘NTL’, he/she is detained in a designated area within the airport till repatriation by the respective airline back to their point of origin in India. During such time, the passenger may have to deal with certain hardships while being detained at the airport.

6. The High Commission, therefore, strongly advises all Indian nationals planning to visit Malaysia to strictly adhere to the laws and regulations of thevisiting country and comply with all entry-related requirements stipulated by the Government of Malaysia, particularly the proof of sufficient funds, verifiable proof of accommodation, genuine return air tickets, and clarity on the purpose
of travel.
